October 27, 2025

Bengaluru, Karnataka is under the weather’s watchful eye as Cyclone Montha churns nearby! The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bengaluru has issued a yellow alert for 11 districts on October 27 and 28, predicting heavy rains that promise to drench the state. IMD scientist C.S. Patil pointed out the districts on high alert: Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Bidar, Kalaburgi, Yadgir, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Raichur, Koppal, and Gadag. These areas should prepare for heavy rainfall over the two days. Not just these, but Bengaluru, Vijayanagara, Chitradurga, Davangere, Tumakuru, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Bengaluru Rural, and Bengaluru South also received yellow alerts for October 27, signaling widespread showers. The cyclone is no ordinary storm. IMD explains that Montha is moving north-northwest and is expected to become a severe cyclonic storm by the morning of October 28. It will then cross the Andhra Pradesh coast near Kakinada on the evening or night of October 28, with powerful winds hitting 90-100 kmph, gusting up to 110 kmph! C.S. Patil warned, "Due to this, the coastal districts are likely to receive extensive rainfall from October 27 to 29," and rainfall might even continue till November 2. The southern and northern interior Karnataka districts will also see heavy rains on October 27 and 28, but the downpour should ease after October 29. Montha has already started showing its strength. On Monday, October 27, many of these districts recorded heavy rainfall: Gadag received 5 cm, Bengaluru’s HAL Airport 3 cm, and Mandya 3 cm. So, Karnataka, keep your umbrellas ready, stay alert, and take weather warnings seriously as Cyclone Montha brings a watery punch to your doorsteps!
