BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar's Shocking Promise: No Border Fence with Bangladesh If BJP Wins!

November 1, 2025

The political heat is on in West Bengal with a fresh spicy controversy! Jagannath Sarkar, the BJP MP from Ranaghat, has set social media buzzing after a video surfaced where he made a jaw-dropping promise. In the viral clip, Sarkar says, “We promise that if we win elections this time, the barbed wire fence separating us from Bangladesh will no longer remain. We were one (in the past) and in future (both the nations) will become one.” Imagine that – no border fence with Bangladesh if the BJP rules! This remark came during a rally on October 30 in Krishnaganj block, a place where most voters are Matua community members originally from Bangladesh. This statement did not sit well with Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC). TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee took to Twitter and slammed BJP fiercely. He wrote, “The hypocrisy of the BJP leadership has fallen to new depths. @BJP4India MP from Ranaghat, Jagannath Sarkar declares that if the BJP comes to power, there will be no borders between India and Bangladesh - both nations will become ONE again! On the other hand, the same BJP government including @hmoindia Amit Shah keeps blaming the West Bengal government for not giving land to ‘protect’ the very borders their own MP wants to erase!” Abhishek added a sharp comment: “The silence of the BJP will only indicate that he spoke with the full consent of top leadership.” This stinging remark puts BJP’s national stance under a microscope, especially as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have called infiltration from Bangladesh the biggest threat to the nation. What makes this controversy even hotter is the timing. West Bengal is currently undergoing a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists. BJP claims SIR will root out ‘infiltrators’ from Bangladesh, yet Sarkar suggests dissolving the border itself! This contradiction has left many scratching their heads. To add more fuel, Abhishek Banerjee questioned why SIR is only happening in West Bengal when other border states like Assam, Meghalaya, or Tripura also share borders with Bangladesh. He said during a virtual party meet, “If the BJP was serious about finding infiltrators, as they say, they should have carried out SIR in Assam, Meghalaya or Tripura. Then this exercise was nothing but a political operation aimed at deleting genuine voters.” The Ranaghat MP’s words and the political jabs from TMC have made the border debate hotter than ever. Will BJP reply or stay silent? Only time will tell, but for now, West Bengal voters are watching this masaledar drama closely!
