Disney and YouTube TV End Blackout! ESPN, ABC Back After 2 Weeks of Drama
November 16, 2025
Big news for TV lovers! After more than two long weeks of blackout, Disney and YouTube TV have finally signed a new agreement. This means popular channels like ABC, ESPN, NatGeo, and FX are back on YouTube TV, making fans jump with joy.
The outage started on the night of October 30 when the two giants couldn’t agree on licensing fees. This blackout hit hard, cutting off live coverage of important college football matches and other sports events, as well as popular news and entertainment shows.
Disney said in a statement, "As part of the new deal, Disney's full suite of networks and stations - including ESPN and ABC - have already begun to be restored to YouTube TV subscribers." YouTube TV also confirmed subscribers should see all Disney channels coming back "over the course of the day." They apologized too, thanking customers for their patience while negotiations went on.
Disney Entertainment bosses Alan Bergman, Dana Walden, and ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro expressed their happiness, saying, "We are pleased that our networks have been restored in time for fans to enjoy the many great programming options this weekend, including college football."
Before the deal was made, things were tense. YouTube TV claimed Disney wanted expensive terms that would make subscriptions costlier and reduce choices for viewers. They even accused Disney of using the blackout as a trick to boost its own services like Hulu + Live TV and Fubo.
On the flip side, Disney said YouTube TV wasn’t willing to pay fair prices and accused Google of "using its market dominance to eliminate competition." Disney chiefs also criticized YouTube TV for pulling channels before the old contract even expired.
This clash wasn't the first! In 2021, they had a similar fight, but that blackout lasted less than two days. Streaming platform wars and channel blackouts are becoming a familiar headache for customers, especially as more players compete for live content.
YouTube TV’s base plan costs $82.99 a month and includes other big networks like NBC, CBS, and Fox. To make up for the Disney blackout, YouTube TV offered customers a $20 credit if the dispute dragged on long.
Meanwhile, Disney spreads its live TV across traditional broadcasts and streaming platforms. ESPN even launched its own streaming service earlier this year at $29.99 monthly. And Disney fans can get bundles of ESPN, Hulu, and Disney+ starting at $29.99 a month for the first year.
So, the curtain has lifted, and the channels are rolling again on YouTube TV. Fans can now kick back and enjoy their favorite shows and sports without missing a beat!
