Telangana Eyes Pension for All State Employees and Social Security for Gig Workers in 2025
November 16, 2025
The Telangana government is cooking up a fresh, exciting pension scheme for every State government employee, joining hands with the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary to Telangana, emphasized, "Standardising pension schemes for all government employees is the need of the hour."
But that’s not all! The State is also gearing up to protect the lively gig and platform workers with social security. This will come alive through the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers (Registration, Social Security, and Welfare) Act, 2025. They expect to present this hot new law in the next Assembly session.
Speaking at a national conclave titled 'National Pension System (NPS) – Empowering Corporates, Enabling Bharat' on Saturday, Ranjan pointed out a common hush-hush around retirement plans. He said many people shy away from planning their golden years.
Joining the chorus, S. Raman, Chairperson of PFRDA, noted, "People generally avoid conversations about retirement savings, especially pensions. Many people remain unaware of financial planning, wealth creation and financial instruments. Our mandate has always been—grow rich before you grow old."
Raman also revealed a striking fact: out of India’s 55 crore workforce, only 10 crore are part of the organised sector. This huge gap sparks a golden opportunity for pension products to expand widely.
With these bold steps, Telangana aims to create a safety net that covers all — from the regular government employee to the bustling gig worker, pushing financial security and well-being into the spotlight like never before.
