Bokaro witnessed a huge health event on Saturday as a district-wide screening drive checked 6,048 people aged over 30 for diabetes. The result? A surprising 572 were diagnosed with diabetes in just one day! Bokaro civil surgeon Dr. Abhay Bhushan Prasad shared this exciting news, adding, “Treatment of all identified patients has been started.” The action was centered at health centres across Bokaro, including the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Clinic at Bokaro General Hospital (BGH). This clinic is getting a fresh boost to handle diabetes and hypertension better. WHO consultant Devojit Sarkar visited the clinic to see how things were going. Officials happily reported that within the past month, the clinic screened 1,227 patients, turning the spotlight on early detection and care. Dr. B B Karunamay, director of BGH, spoke strongly about the issue: “Diabetes continues to be one of the leading health concerns in the district.” He encouraged everyone to use the clinic’s free testing services regularly. “People must undergo regular checkups, maintain a balanced diet, exercise daily and manage their stress. Smokers and alcohol consumers should seek support from the tobacco cessation centre if needed,” he said. This massive health drive is a wake-up call for everyone in Bokaro and beyond. With free testing and treatment readily available, there is no excuse to ignore this silent health threat. So why wait? Get checked, stay healthy, and spread the word!
