No Permanent RI in Kotia! Odisha, Andhra Pradesh Clash Over Health Camp and Development
November 16, 2025
Koraput is the hotspot of a fiery tug-of-war! For nearly 60 years, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh have been locking horns over 21 villages under Kotia panchayat in Pottangi block. What’s cooking now? The people of Kotia don’t have a permanent revenue inspector (RI) in their area. This absence is making life tough. They must travel nearly 30 km to the Pottangi tehsil office even for small papers like birth or caste certificates, said Kotia sarpanch Leu Gamel.
Speaking sharply at a recent zilla parishad meeting, ZP member Tikai Gamel called the situation "administrative negligence". She demanded, "Immediate establishment of a permanent RI office in Kotia!" She warned that without this, Andhra Pradesh officials are sneaking in to expand their influence in several villages.
Pottangi tehsildar Debendra Dharua admitted the problem. He said, "A proposal has been sent to build a permanent RI office in Kotia with extra revenue staff. For now, only an in-charge RI is managing the area. We are hopeful this will be fixed soon."
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh decided to stir the pot by organising a tribal fair on November 11 in Neradivalasa village of Kotia panchayat and a health camp on Friday at Upper Ganjeipadar. But this celebration was cut short! Koraput officials reached the spot and stopped the health camp.
BDO (Pottangi) Ramnath Nayak firmly told the media, "Health officials from Andhra Pradesh were asked not to conduct the camp because our mobile health unit regularly visits the area and treats villagers. Residents were also advised not to take multiple medicines from both states for the same ailment, as it may cause complications."
This ongoing saga shows how a lack of straightforward administration creates confusion on the ground. Will Odisha pump in resources to settle Kotia’s woes? Will AP continue to push its presence? One thing is clear — Kotia’s villagers are caught in the middle, longing for peace, health, and proper services soon!
