On April 29, 2023, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Parakamani Hall was buzzing with serious work. This is where temple staff counted all offerings—the cash, coins, gold items, and more—dropped by devotees into the huge 'Srivari Hundi' at the world’s richest temple of Lord Venkateswara. Parakamani means sorting and counting these offerings carefully, watched by heavy security and 108 CCTV cameras. Even the famous Pedda Jeeyangar's representative and some common devotees were present to keep everything transparent. But something shocking happened! Security saw Coimbatore Venkata Ravi Kumar, a clerk representing Pedda Jeeyangar Mutt, acting nervously and suspiciously. A private strip search revealed nine $100 bills hidden between his buttocks — that’s ₹72,000 at the day’s exchange rate. Ravi Kumar was caught red-handed! TTD’s Assistant Vigilance Officer Y. Satish Kumar quickly filed a police complaint, and the case got FIR No. 24/2023. Although theft attempts happened before, this was the first from someone monitoring the counting process. Fast forward two and a half years. On November 14, 2025, Satish Kumar was found dead on railway tracks near Komali village in Andhra Pradesh. He had been transferred from TTD to the Railway Police in Guntakal. His younger brother Y. Srihari claims Satish was murdered to silence him because he was traveling to a case inquiry at the time. The police investigation tried to find out if Satish fell accidentally or was pushed off the train by dropping dummies from the train and questioning passengers and staff. His belongings were found elsewhere in the train. Meanwhile, after the theft case began, Ravi Kumar donated seven properties worth ₹14 crore to TTD. In June 2023, TTD accepted these gifts. By September, the police case was suddenly settled in Lok Adalat with a compromise, citing religious sensitivity — no conviction! When the new government came in, fresh TTD vigilance checks began. They found Satish was under heavy pressure to close the case. A court later cancelled the Lok Adalat settlement and asked the CID to re-investigate. This death and cover-up sparked a political battle. The Opposition blamed the government for pushing Satish to suicide, while the ruling NDA accused the previous YSRCP government of spoiling the temple’s reputation. BJP leader G. Bhanuprakash Reddy said CCTV footage was deleted in the earlier administration to hide evidence. The CID questioned several former top TTD officials in this mess. But many ask: Can the TTD board even settle crimes like this? Former Chief Secretary L.V. Subrahmanyam says no. Temple leaders warn such compromises are sinful and justice should follow the law. This saga shows how even sacred places can face human greed and political fights. The investigation continues, but one thing is clear — truth must be served, no matter how tough the road!
