Brrr! Kashmir is feeling the cold like never before this November. Officials say this is the chilliest November since 2007, with night temperatures plunging below zero in many places. Srinagar, the heart of the valley, shivered at -4.5°C on Thursday night (November 27, 2025), a slight drop from the already cold -4.4°C the night before. The city’s night temperatures have been falling steadily, settling more than four degrees below the usual for this season. Not just Srinagar, but many weather stations across the valley are recording their lowest November night temperatures in over 18 years! Back in 2007, Srinagar's minimum was -4.8°C on November 28, but the coldest November temperature ever recorded there was a chilling -7.8°C in 1934. The freeze is biting hard in other parts of Kashmir, too. Konibal in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district was the coldest place last night, with a frosty -6°C. Qazigund, known as the gateway to the valley, saw temperatures dip to -4.4°C. North Kashmir’s Kupwara felt the freeze at -4.8°C. Tourist hotspots are not spared either. South Kashmir’s Kokernag had a frosty -1.8°C, the beautiful Pahalgam resort dropped to a biting -5.5°C, and the famous Gulmarg ski resort saw temperatures at -1.4°C. The meteorological department has some news for those wrapped in shawls and blankets: mainly dry weather is expected across Kashmir until December 10, but beware! The nights could get even colder. So folks, keep those woollens ready and sizzle with chai, because Kashmir’s winter has come in with a fierce bang this year!
