Imagine dining in the sky, 120 feet above the ground, surrounded by stunning views of Kerala’s Anachal village near Munnar. Sounds fantastic, right? But on Friday, November 28, 2025, this thrilling experience took an unexpected turn! Around 1:30 pm, a four-member family from Kannur and a restaurant staff member got trapped high up in a sky dining restaurant when the crane that lifted them stopped working. The hydraulic system of the crane just failed, leaving them helpless up in the air. The restaurant, operated by Southern Skies Aerodynamics, had recently opened to give visitors a stunning bird’s-eye view of the Idukki hills and a taste of adventure tourism. However, the joy quickly turned into a nail-biting moment as the crane could not lower the platform. Luckily, brave Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Munnar quickly arrived at the scene. Idukki District Collector Dineshan Cheruvatt assured the public by telling the media, “The trapped tourists would be brought down soon.” Rescue operations are in full swing with safety as the top priority. This incident shows how thrilling adventure tourism can sometimes come with unexpected risks, but also how prepared and quick the rescue teams are. Stay tuned for updates as the five people enjoy their unexpected sky-high wait until safe rescue is completed!
