Big news for Karnataka’s sanitation workers! P. Raghu, the Chairperson of the Karnataka Safai Karmachari Commission, made a thunderous call on Friday. He told government officials to make sure families of sanitation workers who have passed away get the promised ₹10 lakh compensation. This demand comes even though compassionate appointment issues are still not solved at the government level. At a lively grievance meeting with pourakarmikas and sanitation staff in East Corporation, workers didn’t hold back. They raised old problems: no basic facilities, tricky recruitment issues, slow compensation, PF concerns, faulty biometric attendance, salary delays, and lack of clean toilets and rest rooms. P. Raghu wasted no time and ordered officials to fix these immediately. He told the corporation to build and expand toilets and restrooms at all mustering points. He also demanded all overdue salaries be cleared fast. Plus, he asked to work closely with the Social Welfare Department to get validity certificates needed for hiring new workers. Here is some more spicy advice from P. Raghu: he encouraged workers to go directly to officers instead of depending on middlemen for any official work. Now that’s a simple yet bold move! In other news, the South Corporation took strong steps to clean up footpaths in Uttarahalli and Koramangala. Nine illegal pushcarts, four advertisement poles, two temporary shelters, and many unauthorized banners and boards were removed during a footpath clearance drive on Friday. South Corporation Commissioner Ramesh K.N. made it clear that these actions came after numerous public complaints and senior officers’ orders. The encroachments by shops and stalls were causing serious blockage and trouble for pedestrians. The footpath clearing covered routes from Anagha Grand Hotel at Uttarahalli to Sri Guru Raghavendra Swamy Mutt, and from Forum Mall in Koramangala to the water tank. This clean-up drive aims to keep city walkways free for all. Published - November 28, 2025 07:48 pm IST
