The Enforcement Wing (South Zone) of the Commercial Taxes Department erupted into action with a blockbuster tax enforcement drive across Bengaluru’s busiest trade spots. Their sharp eyes zeroed in on tricky sectors like electronics, automobile spares, gift articles, dry fruits, paints, hardware, iron and steel, and cement. The targets? Crowded markets like Chickpet, S.P. Road, Avenue Road, J.C. Road, B.V.K. Iyengar Road and nearby areas. The findings were jaw-dropping! Traders were found bringing in goods — especially electronics, auto parts, gift items, and dry fruits — sneaking them from NCR/Delhi without proper tax invoices. How? They transported huge quantities that did not match official records. This sneaky trick let them sell without issuing bills, hiding their real turnover, and skipping huge GST payments. In the iron, steel, hardware, and cement scenes, the officers uncovered a web of fake billing. "Invoices were issued without actual delivery of goods," the department revealed. Items went straight to homebuilders and customers, while bogus invoices tricked registered firms into claiming illegitimate Input Tax Credit (ITC). Strict action has been fired against the bill issuers and the fake claim beneficiaries. The crackdown also caught many businesses running without GST registration despite smashing the ₹40 lakh turnover barrier! These culprits got stern warnings to register immediately or face penalties. Adding to the hunt, railway stations in Bengaluru came under high alert. At Yeshwantpur Railway Station alone, nearly 1,000 bags of gutkha and pan masala were seized for lacking proper GST papers. The department remains on guard over risky goods like arecanut, pan masala, scrap metal, and dry fruits, tightening the noose. Not stopping there, over 75 vehicles laden with scrap attempted sneaky interstate moves without invoices but were intercepted. So far, ₹2.5 crore in penalties has been raked in from these break-the-rules offenders. In just 10 roaring days, over 500 surprise inspections blitzed the shady operators. The Enforcement Wing, led by Kanishka, Additional Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (Enforcement), South Zone, promises more document checks, data hunts, and legal steps under CGST/KGST Acts to clean the markets. Bengaluru’s tax inspectors mean serious business – exposing and crushing GST evaders one sector at a time!
