Dubai Police made a bold move last month! From November 1, delivery riders were banned from using fast lanes on busy Dubai roads. The goal? To protect these speedy workers and everyone else on the road from nasty accidents. Since the rule started, more than 8,000 fines have been handed out. Here’s the deal with the new lane rules: - On roads with five or more lanes, riders cannot use the two leftmost (fastest) lanes. - On three or four lane roads, riders must avoid the leftmost lane. - Roads with two or fewer lanes have no restrictions. Brigadier Jumaa Salem Bin Suwaidan, head of Dubai’s Traffic Department, explained the stiff penalties. "First violation: AED 500 fine. Second time: AED 700. Third time leads to license suspension," he said sharply. Plus, riding over 100 km/h can cost an extra AED 200 to AED 400 fine depending on how often this happens. Why such strictness? Brig. Bin Suwaidan pointed out, "Delivery riders are very vulnerable in fast traffic because they lack protection like cars. Our new five-year safety plan with the Roads and Transport Authority is all about saving lives." The plan includes better road designs, tough monitoring, and exciting awareness campaigns. Dubai Police also gave hot safety tips for delivery riders: keep off fast lanes, obey speed limits, wear helmets always, check brakes and tires regularly, never use phones while riding, and watch out for tricky road spots. "We are working hard with delivery companies to build a safe riding culture," Brig. Bin Suwaidan added. This crackdown is more than just rules; it’s about making Dubai’s roads a safe place for workers and drivers alike. So next time you see a delivery rider, remember, safety first! Stay alert and ride smart!
