IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express Face Flight Disruptions Over A320 Software Fix
November 29, 2025
IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express will face flight disruptions as around 200-250 A320 family aircraft undergo urgent software or hardware fixes. Airbus identified intense solar radiation as a cause of potential corruption in flight control data for many A320 planes. This issue affects Indian operators’ narrow-body A320 family fleet, which totals about 560 aircraft.
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) issued an Emergency Airworthiness Directive asking airlines to install a serviceable Elevator Aileron Computer (ELAC) in the affected planes. This fix must happen before the next flight.
IndiGo said on November 29, 2025, it is working closely with Airbus and will try to minimize disruptions during inspections. Air India Express confirmed immediate precautionary steps and said delays or cancellations might happen, adding 31 of its A320s will be impacted. Air India warned of longer turnaround times and possible delays as well.
Airbus explained their analysis found intense solar radiation could corrupt data critical to flight controls. A recent event involving an A320 showed uncommanded pitch down due to possible ELAC malfunction. Though the autopilot stayed engaged and there was only minor altitude loss, the issue could risk structural damage if uncorrected.
Airbus apologised for the inconvenience and stressed safety is the top priority. They are working with authorities and airlines to quickly apply software and hardware protections across the fleet worldwide.
The A320 family includes A319s, A320 ceos and neos, and A321 ceos and neos. The airline operators have been asked to carry out repairs before flights to keep operations safe.
