Swift Fire Contained at Baby Memorial Hospital Kozhikode; Patients Evacuated Safely

A major fire broke out at Baby Memorial Hospital in Kozhikode on the morning of November 29, 2025. The fire started around 9 a.m. on the hospital's ninth floor during welding work at the air-conditioning plant. Fire and Rescue Services responded quickly, sending four units from different stations. Hospital security guards and staff helped evacuate all patients and bystanders from the nearby areas safely.
The blaze was contained within an hour, preventing it from spreading to other floors. A nurse present at the scene said, "A major relief was that the fire broke out in a non-patient care area. Within minutes after receiving the fire alert, we were able to evacuate all from the eighth floor following the standard rescue protocol."
The hospital praised the quick and coordinated efforts of medical staff, security personnel, and government support which ensured smooth handling of the crisis. Normal hospital operations resumed a few hours later.
Rescue officials have announced a full safety audit of the hospital building. Experts from the Electrical Inspectorate will also investigate to find the exact cause of the fire and check for any violations of safety guidelines.
