November 29, 2025
Chittoor Urban police launched a strict crackdown on shops selling banned tobacco products near schools. The operation happened on Saturday under Circle-Inspector B. Nettikantaiah and Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi. Police used Bhadra teams, Rakshak personnel, and ID parties to cover many shops in the city.
The focus was on the areas around Santapet High School, Thotapalyam High School, and Varadappanaidu High School. Many shops were caught selling chewing tobacco, cigarettes, and other banned items. Police began a bind-over drive against these shop owners.
Inspector Nettikantaiah said, "No shop near educational institutions would be allowed to sell tobacco or intoxicant material." He also warned, "Strict legal action would follow against the violators." Police confirmed that such enforcement drives would continue in the district headquarters to keep students safe.
This move aims to protect children from harmful tobacco products and keep school zones safe from illegal sales.
