The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 States and Union Territories is being rushed and badly planned, stated the CPI(M) on November 29, 2025. The Left party urged the Election Commission (EC) to stop the exercise. The CPI(M) politburo said this process, supposed to be routine and transparent, has become "a chaotic, arbitrary process that threatens both the integrity of the voter rolls and the safety of those forced to undertake that work." They accused authorities of giving Booth Level Officers (BLOs) impossible deadlines for door-to-door verification. The party pointed out BLOs are facing extreme pressure, with some reportedly camping in party offices, asking voters to come there. This, said CPI(M), "will inevitably lead to mass exclusion and errors." The heavy workload on BLOs has even "claimed many lives," the party added, calling these "not accidental casualties" but results of an "irresponsible and inhuman administrative process." The CPI(M) also raised concerns about the EC not using its own software designed to spot duplicate voters, calling this omission "shocking." Poor internet and server issues are creating further hurdles for BLOs and voters trying to upload forms, especially hurting marginalized and rural voters. CPI(M) demands the Election Commission "immediately halt this flawed process" and "stop the disenfranchisement of a large number of people."
