Over 50,000 Indians Send Handwritten Letters to Supreme Court to Save Community Dogs
November 30, 2025
More than 50,000 Indians posted handwritten letters to the Supreme Court on November 29. They asked the court to reconsider its November 7 order that instructed authorities to remove community dogs from institutional areas. Nearly 10,000 letters came from Delhi alone. The campaign was part of a nation-wide petition led by animal welfare activist Ambika Shukla.
Citizens from cities and towns like Lucknow, Imphal, Vadodara, Chennai, Kashmir, and Kanyakumari took part. At Lucknow’s General Post Office, students and professionals queued up to send their letters. Organisers shared English and Hindi letter templates to help people write.
Animal activist Kunal said the response exceeded expectations. “This movement shows how deeply people care about animal welfare. A handwritten letter carries sincerity and by now more than 10,000 letters have already been submitted,” he said.
By the evening of November 29, organisers confirmed that over 50,000 postal receipts had been uploaded on their website as proof of the letters sent. The petition asks the Chief Justice of India to stay, recall, and reconsider the order affecting community dogs.
