In Sydney, about 500 people gathered for the “Put Australia First” rally. Speakers including Family First’s Lyle Shelton spoke on mass immigration, climate policy, and freedom of speech. The MC, One Nation candidate Stuart Bonds, said participants were being "replaced in our own nations" and called "Net zero modern slavery." Social media creator Lauchlan Meyer asked, "What will Australia become if we don’t stand up?" to which a crowd member replied, "A third world shithole." The event ended with the national anthem, Advance Australia Fair. In north Queensland, LNP candidate Wayde Chiesa is leading in the Hinchinbrook state byelection with over 41% primary votes and a 13% swing. He is reportedly ahead with 53% of two-party preferred votes. The byelection came after Katter’s Australian Party MP Nick D’ametto resigned to become Townsville’s mayor. Chiesa campaigned for stricter bail laws for children. Meanwhile, a huge factory fire broke out late Friday in North St Marys, western Sydney. Flames rose up to 15 metres and caused at least one explosion. Around 50 fire trucks and 200 firefighters are tackling the blaze amid chemical hazards, trying to protect nearby buildings and the environment. In Sydney, a couple is charged with fraud for winning over $1 million at a casino after arriving from overseas. Their repeated wins raised suspicion. Lastly, Melbourne’s new Metro Tunnel started operations this morning, marking a big step in the city’s transport upgrades.
