Kazakhstan Couple Cheats Sydney Crown Casino Using Hidden Camera, Wins $1.18m
November 30, 2025
A married couple from Kazakhstan was caught winning over $1 million at Sydney’s Crown casino using a secret camera and earpieces. New South Wales police arrested the duo at the Barangaroo casino. "On Thursday, a 36-year-old woman was observed by casino staff wearing a small, discrete camera attached to her shirt," said a police spokesperson.
Officers found the couple carrying "small, magnetised probes, batteries, and a mobile phone with a fitted attachment that allowed the camera function of the phone to discreetly view, capture or record images." They also seized a custom-made mirror attachment for the phone.
The couple arrived in Sydney from Kazakhstan in October 2025 and applied for Crown memberships the same day, police said. They visited the casino repeatedly in October and November, winning a total of $1.18 million, which sparked suspicion.
"With their mobile phones capturing images of the table, the pair communicated using deep-seated earpieces through which they received instructions to wager on various card games and ultimately cheat the casino," NSW police said.
Officers raided their Kent Street accommodation and found other gambling props, expensive jewellery, and €2,000. Detective Superintendent Peter Faux said, "Our detectives collaborate closely with casino security to identify and disrupt unlawful behaviour. This strong cooperation is vital to maintaining the integrity of gaming operations and is reflected in outcomes like this."
