The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has released its election manifesto for the Kollam district panchayat with bold promises on housing, healthcare, and social welfare. The LDF vows to ensure housing for every household in Kollam within five years, focusing especially on Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and differently-abled citizens. Strengthening health services is a top priority through Family Health Centres that will offer mental health care, lifestyle disease management, telemedicine, and palliative care. Health camps and counselling for the elderly will expand, alongside the ‘Jeevanam’ project. On agriculture, the LDF plans to introduce new farming methods, mechanization, and technology. They propose integrated vegetable villages, kitchen gardens, fruit tree projects, and promotion of organic farming with better irrigation. Market assurance for farm products and support for Kudumbashree women’s farmer collectives are included. Climate-resilient farming models will also be encouraged. Women’s empowerment measures include setting up women’s industrial estates, vocational training centres, co-working spaces, premium workplace crèches, and a 24x7 security helpline. Senior citizens will benefit from high-tech day care centres, happiness parks, and enhanced palliative care in partnership with Kudumbashree. The manifesto addresses mental health seriously with 24x7 helpline services and free treatment for issues such as suicide prevention, postpartum blues, and depression. Awareness programs and new mental health centres will be started. Social schemes like ‘Dowry-Free Kollam’ and support for unmarried mothers, widows, and divorced women will be launched. Tourism promotion includes a new tourism circuit linking coastal, hilly, and midland areas, with training for tourist guides to boost employment. The LDF also plans to expand the EMS Conference Hall and Dormitory facilities at Kuriyottumala High-Tech Dairy Farm to international standards. With promises that cover housing, health, farming, women, seniors, mental health, and tourism, the LDF’s Kollam manifesto lays out a detailed plan for inclusive development and social welfare.
