Hyderabad’s Bolarum area saw heavy traffic jams on Sunday as thousands headed to Rashtrapati Nilayam for the last day of the nine-day Bharatiya Kala Mahotsav. Normally quiet roads were clogged with vehicles waiting in long queues. Organisers said the event attracted about 1.8 lakh visitors over nine days and earned more than ₹2.5 crore from stall sales.
By Sunday afternoon, around 14,500 to 15,000 people had entered Rashtrapati Nilayam, with another 15,000 booked online. The final turnout was expected to rise further. Visitors formed lines nearly 100 metres long to enter.
Inside, people explored exhibits from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Goa, Daman & Diu, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. Saaho Ram from Rajasthan said, “The reception in Hyderabad had been extraordinary.” He sold handicrafts worth ₹2 lakh and shared he would miss Hyderabad.
The Maharashtra pavilion was the busiest, with sellers of paithani sarees and accessories reporting good sales. Omkar Ratnakar Rode said, “While Paithanis are expensive due to the intricate work involved, we still managed to sell a significant number. Accessories such as clutches and wallets were in even greater demand.”
Families and elders enjoyed cultural dance performances, adding to the festive mood. But some visitors complained about poor communication on security checks. Sandeep Yadav said, “We understand the security concerns but the lack of prior communication caused us delay of nearly an hour on an already busy day.”
