The Munambam action council stopped their long protest on Sunday. This happened after the High Court partially restored revenue rights to local residents. They called off the protest after the authorities began accepting property tax and issuing possession certificates. The protest ended on the 415th day, with Industries Minister P. Rajeeve and Revenue Minister K. Rajan present. Fr. Antony Xavier Tharayil, the council convener, said, "The residents decided to temporarily call off the protest after the revenue authorities accepted property tax from them and started issuing possession certificates for the holdings. The protest could be revived if the promises are not met." The council plans to keep fighting legally. A Waqf Tribunal case is scheduled for December 5, and a High Court case may be heard on December 17. However, a breakaway group of residents linked to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is continuing the protest. They claim the action council compromised the people's interests. A leader of the Munambam Samara Samiti said the action council should have kept protesting until the issue was fully resolved. "Earlier too, the revenue rights were restored only to be withdrawn," he added. The protest pause came after Joseph Benny, leader of the action council, accepted lime juice from Minister Rajeeve in a symbolic gesture. MLAs Job Michel and K. N. Unnikrishnan also attended the event.
