The battle for Kalamassery and Eloor municipalities is heating up as the United Democratic Front (UDF) and Left Democratic Front (LDF) field their sitting chairpersons as candidates. Seema Kannan from Congress leads UDF in Kalamassery, while A.D. Sujil represents CPI(M) and the LDF in Eloor. Seema Kannan became Kalamassery chairperson in 2020 after a tied council was decided by a draw of lots. She won support from Independent candidates, securing a slim majority for UDF in the 42-member council. Later, in December 2022, she survived a no-confidence motion from the opposition. Kannan is confident, saying, "The UDF rule was able to improve the infrastructure facilities in the municipality." In Eloor, A.D. Sujil is in the race for his third time as chairperson. He served as a councillor in 2015 and 2020. Despite anti-incumbency, the CPI(M) chose him again because of a tight three-way contest. Sujil highlighted progress under Left rule, stating, "The municipality also recorded progress in the industrial sector, with the support of the Left government." Both candidates face strong opposition but put faith in their governance records as the polls approach.
