PM Modi Announces ₹2 Lakh Ex-Gratia for Victims of Sivaganga Bus Accident

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh to the families of each person killed in a serious bus accident in Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu. The accident happened on Sunday evening when two Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation buses collided near Nachiyarpuram, killing 11 people and injuring 50 others. "The loss of lives due to a mishap in Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover soon. An ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given ₹50,000: PM," the Prime Minister's office said in a social media post. The collision occurred between a bus traveling from Karaikudi to Devakottai and another moving from Devakottai to Dindigul. An initial inquiry showed both buses were speeding on a narrow road. On the same night, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced ₹3 lakh compensation for each family of the deceased, ₹1 lakh for seriously injured persons, and ₹50,000 for minor injuries.
