Over 120,000 Home Cameras Hacked in South Korea for Sex Exploitation; Four Arrested
December 1, 2025
South Korean police have arrested four suspects for hacking more than 120,000 IP cameras installed in homes and businesses. The hackers exploited weak passwords to access cameras in places like private homes, karaoke rooms, a Pilates studio, and a gynecologist's clinic. They created sexually exploitative videos using the footage and sold them on an overseas website. One hacker hacked 63,000 cameras and sold 545 videos for 35 million won (about $12,235). Another hacked 70,000 cameras and sold 648 videos for 18 million won. Together, they uploaded about 62% of the illegal content on the site. The suspects worked independently and did not conspire together. Police are currently shutting down the website and cooperating with foreign agencies to find its operators. They have also arrested three people who bought or viewed the illegal videos. Park Woo-hyun, cyber investigation chief at South Korea’s National Police Agency, said, "IP camera hacking and illegal filming inflict immense suffering on victims and are therefore serious offences. We will eradicate them through vigorous investigations." Police have contacted victims at 58 locations, advising them to change passwords and helping remove the videos. The agency urges all users of IP cameras to regularly change their passwords to prevent hacking.
