Schools Closed Today in Chennai and Nearby Districts Due to Cyclone Ditwah Rain
December 2, 2025
Schools and colleges in Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Kanchipuram districts will remain closed on December 2, 2025. The decision was made late Monday by district authorities due to forecasts of heavy rain caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
Chennai District Collector Roshni Siddharth Jagade said, "All educational institutions in the district would observe a holiday on December 2 due to weather alerts." Similar orders came from the District Collectors of Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram.
Officials said the holiday aims to keep students safe amid expected intense rainfall and possible waterlogging.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, reported a deep depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal and nearby coastal areas of north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh. This system is a remnant of Cyclone Ditwah.
RMC forecast heavy rain for Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu districts on Tuesday. The deep depression may continue moving northwards along the north Tamil Nadu-south Andhra Pradesh coast and weaken into a depression within 12 hours.
