The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has started an investigation into Air India. The airline allegedly operated eight passenger flights with an Airbus A320neo whose airworthiness certificate had lapsed. Air India said it reported the matter to DGCA as soon as it noticed it on November 26. The airline is also conducting an internal probe to find out what went wrong. They have suspended staff connected to this case. The eight flights took place on November 24 and 25 with the affected aircraft. This plane was one of 70 jets moved from Vistara to Air India after their merger last November. It was supposed to get its annual certification checked. According to DGCA, Air India had applied for a review. The aircraft was grounded for an engine change and later allowed to fly. However, the certificate had expired during this time. These developments raise concerns about flight safety and proper checks on aircraft operations.
