Central Prison Finds Hidden Mobile Phone in Washroom Amid Major Smuggling Probe
December 2, 2025
Four days after a major raid that recovered over 50 mobile phones and an equal number of SIM cards, Central Prison officials discovered yet another hidden mobile phone with a SIM card in the washroom of Barrack C, Tower 2. The device was found on Sunday during surprise inspections.
Following the find, Paramesh H.A., Superintendent of the Central Prison, filed a complaint with local police for a detailed investigation. This marks the fourth FIR registered from these recent seizures.
Police have started analyzing all confiscated phones to check if they were used for anti-social activities. They are also investigating how such a large number of phones, SIM cards, chargers, earphones, and cash entered the high-security jail despite strict checks.
βIt is still a mystery how these phones are being used despite jammers and round-the-clock physical and electronic surveillance,β a police officer said.
Sources in the Prisons Department suspect a deep-rooted connection between some prison staff and inmates that may have aided smuggling. Police believe inmate groups might be running an illegal mobile phone racket, selling devices at high prices inside the prison.
Apart from Central Prison, surprise inspections across other district prisons have led to the seizure of many mobile phones and banned items too.
