A 32-year-old man in New Zealand has been charged with theft after he allegedly swallowed a diamond-studded Fabergé egg locket worth NZ$33,585 ($19,300). Police arrested him minutes after the theft at Partridge Jewellers in central Auckland last Friday. The man has undergone medical checks and stays in custody. The stolen Fabergé egg, called the Octopussy egg, is set with 60 white diamonds and 15 blue sapphires. It opens to reveal an 18K gold miniature octopus. The design is inspired by the 1983 James Bond film about a Fabergé egg heist. Fabergé is a famous jeweller from Russia, known worldwide for making gem and precious metal eggs. The Fabergé egg locket has not yet been recovered, police told local media. The suspect faces additional charges for allegedly stealing an iPad from the same store on 12 November, and for taking cat litter and flea control products worth NZ$100 from a private home the next day. He is due back in court on 8 December.
