Supreme Court Grants Bail to Congress Leader Mahesh Joshi in Money Laundering Case
December 3, 2025
The Supreme Court on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, granted bail to Congress leader and former Rajasthan Minister Mahesh Joshi in a money laundering case. The case is linked to alleged irregularities in the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme. A Bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Augustine George Masih passed the order after hearing an appeal filed by Joshi. The appeal challenged the Rajasthan High Court's August decision, which had denied him bail.
Mahesh Joshi, aged 70, was arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The Enforcement Directorate (ED) took him into custody after questioning him for about seven to eight hours at their Jaipur office. The ED's investigation began after the Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) filed an FIR regarding the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme.
The Jal Jeevan Mission aims to provide safe and adequate drinking water through household taps. The scheme was implemented in Rajasthan by the state's Public Health Engineering (PHE) department. Joshi was the PHE minister in the previous Ashok Gehlot government. The case deals with alleged irregularities during his tenure.
This bail order marks a key development in the ongoing probe into financial misconduct linked to state water supply projects.
