December 3, 2025
The Hanuma Maale Sankirtana Yatra took place in Srirangapatana on December 3 under very tight police security. More than 5,000 activists from Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, and nearby districts took part. The event was organized by the Hindu Jagarana Vedike. The procession began at 10:30 a.m. from Nimishamba Temple and ended near Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple grounds. The activists chanted bhajans and slogans while demanding the rebuild of a Hanuman temple said to be destroyed by Tipu Sultan to build the 18th century Jamia Masjid. Police had heavily guarded the mosque with barricades and lined police vans to prevent entry. Despite some shouting and jostling near the mosque, no untoward incidents occurred. More than 1,200 police personnel, including commandos and Karnataka State Reserve Police, were deployed. Officers installed 150 CCTV cameras along the four-kilometer route and used drones to monitor the procession. Mallikarjun Baladandi, Mandya Superintendent of Police, confirmed the strong security and peaceful end of the yatra, which passed through narrow town lanes before concluding in the evening.
