The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is planning to rename streets in Tirumala after famous saints, Alwars, philosophers, and great kings. This is to honor those who shaped the spiritual heritage of Lord Venkateswara’s temple. Currently, most streets in Tirumala use simple names tied to local cottages or areas like ATC, MBC, or Surapuram Thota. Only the mada streets have special names. TTD wants to change this by giving each street a holy name from the temple’s history. TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary told The Hindu that over 50 names have been selected. These include Sri Ramanujacharya, saint-composer Annamacharya, poet Purandhara Dasa, Kulasekhara Alwar, Anandalwar, and emperor Sri Krishnadevaraya. "This effort is not just administrative but devotional," Mr. Chowdary said, "an homage to those who gave their knowledge, art, and devotion to the Lord." TTD especially wants to honor the great Alwars of the Sri Vaishnava tradition. Their hymns and teachings are deeply linked to Tirumala’s spiritual life. Speaking optimistically, Mr. Chowdary said the new street names will spark pilgrims' curiosity. He hopes visitors will learn about the saints who lived with deep faith and contributed to Tirumala’s legacy. Names like Sri Ramanujacharya Marg, Goda Devi Marg, and Annamaiah Circle are expected to raise pilgrims’ spiritual feeling right from the start. These streets will let devotees walk not just on physical paths but on the footsteps of saintly legends. As India’s top pilgrimage spot, Tirumala is set to have streets that honor its rich religious past. The TTD believes these changes will help pilgrims feel a stronger sense of peace and devotion during their visit.
