Banaras Hindu University (BHU) saw a tense clash on Tuesday night between students and university security. The fight damaged flower pots, chairs, and vehicles. The police and Provincial Armed Constabulary arrived to control the situation after much effort. Assistant Commissioner of Police Gaurav Kumar said, "The security officer of the university submitted a petition after which we registered a First Information Report relates to public nuisance and some other sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against two named and 100 unnamed people. Out of the two named accused one is a former student. The two named people had an altercation with the security which resulted in the incident." Students claimed the trouble started when a vehicle reportedly hit a female student. When students tried to register a complaint, security staff got involved and the dispute turned violent. Some students were detained by security personnel. A large group of students staged a sit-in protest in front of the Vice Chancellor’s residence. The conflict escalated, and students threw stones and damaged flowerpots near the LD Guest House. Several students sustained minor injuries during the unrest.
