M. M. Hassan Welcomes ED Probe into Sabarimala Gold Theft, Criticizes ED Over Masala Bond Case
December 3, 2025
Former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president M. M. Hassan welcomed the Kerala High Court's decision to allow the Enforcement Directorate to investigate the Sabarimala gold theft case. Speaking to the media, Hassan said, "I hope we can expect a more thorough inquiry if the ED investigates the case." He added that the ED's probe could reveal links between the gold theft and international idol-smuggling networks.
Hassan warned, "Once the ED begins probing, more Marxist leaders will likely end up in jail. The CPI(M)'s role in the gold heist will also come to light."
Responding to CPI(M) State secretary M. V. Govindan's remark that the ED notice in the Masala Bond case was "worth no more than the paper it was printed on," Hassan said this confirmed Congress leaders' claims.
He accused the ED of selective investigation, saying, "The ED notices during the last Lok Sabha elections—particularly in the Karuvannur bank fraud case—had politically benefited the BJP. A similar attempt is happening now. In the Masala Bond case, land worth ₹466 crore was purchased in violation of norms. But the ED shows no willingness to investigate that. This is why we call it an election stunt."
On the Rahul Mamkootathil complaint, Hassan stated the KPCC president had already clarified their position. "The party has taken strong action. This is the first time the KPCC has received such a complaint, and it has been forwarded to the DGP. Since Mr. Mamkootathil is not within the party's organisation, the case was handed over to police respecting the seriousness of the complaint. Further steps will follow court directions," he said.
