Indian Navy Stuns with Navy Day Demo Featuring INS Vikrant and Jets at Thiruvananthapuram
December 4, 2025
The calm waters off Shanghumughom Beach in Thiruvananthapuram stirred with excitement on Wednesday as the Indian Navy held a spectacular Operational Demo for Navy Day. The highlight was the indigenously-built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, along with MiG-29K fighter jets, destroyers, frigates, fast-attack vessels, Sea King and Chetak helicopters, plus the submarine INS Shishumar.
The show began after the President's arrival, with three MH-60R helicopters flying in, releasing flares and saluting by dipping their noses. Four Dornier aircraft performed an eye-catching 'bomb-burst' maneuver.
Warships came close to the beach, firing flares, as the crowd cheered loudly. Chetak helicopters and Hawk Advanced Jet Trainers demonstrated attack exercises, and missile vessels simulated missile launches, keeping the energy high.
A MiG-29K smoothly took off from INS Vikrant's deck, flying low over the carrier before zooming off. The Hawk jets amazed with agile formation flying.
Marine Commandos (MARCOS) displayed a thrilling helicopter insertion, showing small team extraction and demolition skills.
Rare to see, the submarine INS Shishumar sailed close to the beach, thrilling spectators. Sail training ships Tarangini and Sudarshini showcased India's naval heritage with elegant sea maneuvers.
President remarked, "I am happy to note that the Indian Navy is choosing various cities for operational demonstrations on the Navy Day. It is a welcome step to provide opportunities to the citizens of various parts of the country to witness our Navy’s excellence."
Admiral Dinesh Tripathi said the Navy Day marks the 1971 attack on Karachi Harbour and that holding celebrations outside New Delhi helps reconnect with India’s maritime heritage. "It is only fitting this demonstration is happening in Kerala, as its shores have spoken to the world for many centuries," he added.
The event also featured a Hornpipe Dance by Sea Cadet Corps children, a Southern Naval Command Band performance, a Continuity Drill, ship illuminations, fireworks, and the Beating Retreat ceremony.
