Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin to Inaugurate New M.K. Stalin Eco-Park at Melathikkan Tank
December 4, 2025
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin will inaugurate the new M.K. Stalin eco-park on December 4. The park is developed inside the restored irrigation tank at Melathikkan village on Thirukovilur Main Road. It covers five hectares within the Melathikkan tank maintained by the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA).
S. Anbarasu, Assistant Executive Engineer of State Highways, said the park offers an important leisure spot for children and senior citizens. It is near a key temple town, making it easily accessible. The opening time of the park will be decided soon.
Before the opening, Collector K. Tharpagaraj and Minister for Public Works and Highways E.V. Velu inspected the park. The facility includes a children’s play area, snack retail spaces, dedicated parking, and a tiled walking track about two km long around the lake. Seating is provided every 200 metres, along with washrooms and water points.
The park also has four overhead tanks with a 240 KV transformer, a meditation centre, an audio system, and separate gyms for men and women. For safety, CCTV cameras with centralized monitoring, fencing, and a compound wall are in place.
Native trees like guava, naval, izhupai, mango, and gooseberry will be planted. Culverts manage rainwater discharge to protect the park. The tank covers 82 acres and holds 38 million cubic feet of water. It was recently restored under the Rehabilitation and Restoration of Lakes scheme by the DRDA.
After opening, the Department of Tourism will manage the eco-park and provide boating facilities to attract tourists and long-distance travelers.
