Suspect Arrested in Pipe Bomb Case from January 6 Capitol Riot Eve
December 4, 2025
A suspect has been arrested in connection with two pipe bombs found outside the Republican and Democratic national committee offices on the night before the January 6 Capitol riot. The arrest was confirmed Thursday by two sources to CBS News. Charges are expected in DC federal court later the same day, though exact charges remain unknown. This arrest ends a years-long manhunt that included a $500,000 reward. The bombs were safely deactivated and did not explode. Earlier this year, the FBI released CCTV showing a person with a backpack and a light grey hooded sweater placing the bombs near the Democratic National Committee building in Washington. The bombs, equipped with 60-minute kitchen timers, were found as rioters began storming the Capitol, where US senators were certifying Joe Biden's 2020 election win. The riot drew thousands, including far-right groups like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers. Police had been searching for the person behind the bombs ever since. Many suspects from the January 6 riot have since been pardoned by former President Donald Trump, who called them "the hostages" and said their lives had been "destroyed."
