Farmers from Krishna, Guntur, and NTR districts have urged the Andhra Pradesh government to buy paddy at the declared Minimum Support Price (MSP) without delay. They want smooth procurement with proper arrangements for moisture testing, transport, gunny bags, and weighing. At a media conference on Wednesday, farmer representatives voiced frustration over poor implementation despite government promises. They say paddy is being bought at ₹1,400 to ₹1,470 per quintal, below MSP, often blamed on high moisture content. Tenant farmer Vaka Ramachandra Rao said, "Paddy is being purchased at ₹1,400 to ₹1,470 per quintal, far below the MSP and high moisture percentage in the produce is being cited as the reason." Farmers also complained about insufficient harvesting machines, expensive rents, and forced distress sales. Anne Subbarao noted the lack of equipment increased farmer costs. Slow procurement and recent cyclone rains pushed prices down further. Another farmer accused officials of delaying weighment by refusing gunny bags and transport help. Tenant Farmers’ Association general secretary M. Haribabu said procurement staff failed to explain moisture rules and sent farmers to private mills that dictate prices. Even after reporting to officials including the Collector and Tahsildar, no action was taken. Haribabu added, "Farmers are forced to sell away their produce at ₹1,470 per quintal, suffering a loss of ₹200 to ₹300 per bag. In a village of 1,000 acres, total loss amounts to ₹70 lakh to ₹1 crore." Senior leaders Y. Keshava Rao and Jonna Siva Shankar also spoke at the event, backing the farmers’ demands.
