Man from Prominent Family Found Guilty of Rape in Melbourne Home
December 5, 2025
A man from a high-profile family was found guilty of raping a woman inside his Melbourne home. He denied two rape charges but the Victorian county court jury convicted him on Friday. Prosecutors said the attack happened in the early hours of 14 January 2024. The woman had consensual sex with her boyfriend at the house. But her boyfriend left before 2am in an Uber. The man lied to the woman saying her boyfriend’s Uber was cancelled and he would return. Instead, the man went into a dark bedroom pretending to be the boyfriend. There, he digitally raped the woman twice.
In the days after, the man doctored an Uber receipt to show the boyfriend left after 2:30am. The man admitted forging this receipt, saying he panicked after being falsely accused. Crown prosecutor Jeremy McWilliams told the jury the man lied to avoid blame. He said, "The alleged victim had given clear, consistent and convincing evidence." Defence barrister David Hallowes SC said his client was telling the truth and suggested the woman’s memory could be mistaken.
After seven days of evidence, the 12 jurors began deliberations Wednesday afternoon. They returned guilty verdicts shortly after noon on Friday. When the verdicts were read, the man slumped forward with his head in his hands. His mother cried in court.
