The Karnataka High Court has ended the wait for 900 undergraduate medical and dental seats for the 2025-26 year. A special three-judge bench set aside the provisional third-round counselling list published on October 24. The court ordered the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) to conduct the third round of counselling again using a court-approved method. Justices B.M. Shyam Prasad, M.I. Arun, and T.M. Nadaf gave this unanimous verdict on December 5. This came after conflicting judgments by a previous division bench on November 19. The special bench also instructed KEA to finish counselling by December 17. Importantly, the National Medical Commission was told to accept the KEA's final candidate list, even though the official admission deadline has passed. The move gives partial relief to MBBS seat seekers who challenged KEA’s method in filling vacant seats. Around 900 MBBS seats, including management quota seats, had been on hold since October 26 due to the pending case. The special bench formed after the previous division bench disagreed; Justice Jayant Banerji had canceled the provisional list, directing KEA to follow Supreme Court guidelines strictly. Meanwhile, Justice K.V. Aravind allowed KEA to proceed with the list. The new verdict clears uncertainty and puts the admission process back on track.
