Major airports in India faced chaos as IndiGo cancelled over 400 flights on December 5, 2025. This marked the fourth straight day of delays and cancellations. The airline's on-time flights at six big airports fell to just 8.5% on December 4. IndiGo blamed a mix of tech glitches, winter schedule changes, bad weather, airport congestion, and new pilot rostering rules called Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL). The root problem started with the full rollout of these strict FDTL norms on November 1, designed to limit pilot fatigue. Airlines struggled to adjust pilot schedules under these new rules. Pilots are upset over long work hours, denied salary increases, and how IndiGo handled the new laws. This led to pilots refusing to cooperate fully. In discussions with Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and DGCA chief Faiz Kidwai on December 4, IndiGo executives said poor planning and misjudgments caused the crisis. CEO Pieter Elbers said the airline is taking steps to fix the complex network disruptions. IndiGo plans to reduce flights from December 8 to lessen cancellations. Delays will likely continue for two to three more days. The airline has asked for a delay in applying the harder night-flying limits until February 10. The DGCA will review this request. Passengers continue to face travel headaches as IndiGo works to tame its scheduling storm.
