Heavy Rain in Kerala Leads to Opening of Dam Shutters and Evacuation of Residents

As heavy rain lashed various parts of Kerala, water in many rivers rose to dangerous levels, prompting evacuation of hundreds of people living in low-lying areas and riverbanks. Shutters of some dams in Palakkad and Pathanamthitta districts were opened during the day to release excess water. The IMD said a low-pressure area has formed, leading to more rain and strong winds in the coming days. The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services warned of high waves along the Kerala coast and urged caution. The recent heavy rainfall has flooded low-lying areas, leading to the displacement of several residents. Various dams had to open their shutters to manage the rising water levels.
