IndiGo, India's biggest airline, faced a major crisis on December 5, 2025. Over 400 flights were cancelled as pilot rostering issues continued to disrupt operations. Many passengers were stuck at airports for up to three days. There were chaotic scenes with some flights delayed by more than 12 hours. Passengers protested and others complained about lost baggage. IndiGo's on-time performance dropped sharply to just 8.5% on December 4. Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted IndiGo an exemption from night-duty limits for pilots. It also relaxed flight duty rules by allowing leaves to be substituted with weekly rest periods. These steps aim to ease IndiGo’s pilot shortage problems and stabilize flight schedules.
