Rahul Mamkootathil, a Kerala Congress MLA expelled after rape allegations, has filed for anticipatory bail in the Kerala High Court. Mamkootathil argued that the charge in the First Information Report (FIR) does not meet the legal definition of rape. He told the court he is willing to explain the situation to police if granted a chance without fear of arrest. He called the complaint 'highly belated' and noted it was submitted directly to the Chief Minister, not through the usual legal channels. Mamkootathil further claimed no custodial interrogation was needed and said he is ready to cooperate fully with the investigation. The charge stems from a case registered by Nemom Police Station, Thiruvananthapuram, accusing him of sexually exploiting a woman. His earlier bail plea was rejected by the Principal Sessions Judge in Thiruvananthapuram, leading to his High Court application.
