The Bengaluru Home Department launched ‘Hygiene on Go’, a unique mobile sanitation service for the city’s Traffic Police. Home Minister G. Parameshwara flagged off three specially fitted vehicles. These vehicles will serve police personnel along three heavy-traffic routes: Thanisandra, Adugodi, and Mysuru Road. The service, costing ₹2.06 crore, will run for 27 months till March 2028. It operates daily from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., covering 91 stops to ensure timely use by officers. Each vehicle has separate washrooms for men and women, CCTV, GPS, and LED road safety displays. Limited access to toilets often causes health issues like dehydration and infections among police on duty. A senior male officer said, “The mobile sanitation arrangement is very beneficial, especially for women, because washrooms are much more easily accessible for men than for women.” A woman traffic inspector welcomed the initiative, adding it helps during peak hours when toilets can be far from duty spots. She explained, “We have a new system of e-attendance... When we move beyond 100 metres, higher officers often scold us if we are gone for a few minutes. So, these mobile sanitation vehicles will be very useful.” Another policewoman noted the availability of sanitary pad disposal would greatly support women during menstruation. This first-of-its-kind sanitation project aims to make police duty healthier and more comfortable across Bengaluru's busiest areas.
