IndiGo cancelled over 400 flights on Saturday, December 6, across four main airports. Bengaluru airport had 124 cancellations, Mumbai 109, Delhi 106, and Hyderabad 66, sources said. This followed IndiGo cancelling over 1,000 flights a day earlier due to pilot rostering problems. CEO Pieter Elbers apologized for the disruptions in a video message. IndiGo expected fewer than 1,000 flights on Saturday. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) provided temporary relief on Friday by adjusting night duty hours and allowing pilots more night landings. However, the airline still faced major operational challenges. At Pune airport, 42 IndiGo flights were cancelled, stranding hundreds of passengers. Fourteen inbound and 28 outbound flights were affected, disrupting routes to cities like Indore, Delhi, Nagpur, and Chennai. IndiGo resumed 9 flights from Jammu Airport after cancellations left travelers stranded. Meanwhile, Srinagar airport saw seven IndiGo flights cancelled both inbound and outbound. The airline was supposed to operate 36 flights there but ongoing rostering issues caused widespread cancellations. IndiGo originally opposed the new flight duty and rest period rules for pilots introduced in January 2024, which were set to start in March 2024. The current crisis reflects their ongoing struggles to comply with these norms. Passengers are advised to check flight status before traveling as IndiGo continues to adjust its schedule amid this evolving situation.
