India and the US have called for stronger UN sanctions against terror groups Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), and their proxies. They want new punishments like global asset freezes and arms embargoes. The two countries also urged the UN to add more ISIS and al-Qaida affiliates to the sanctions list. These demands came during talks held on December 3 in New Delhi by their joint working group on counter terrorism. India thanked the US for designating The Resistance Front (TRF), linked to LeT, as a terrorist group. The TRF claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam terror attack. A joint statement said, "The two sides called for additional designations of ISIS and al-Qa'ida affiliates, and LeT and JeM and their proxy groups, supporters, sponsors, financiers and backers, under the UN 1267 sanctions regime, ensuring their members face a global asset freeze, travel ban and arms embargo." Both sides strongly condemned terrorism in all forms, including cross-border attacks. They expressed concern over terrorists using drones, AI, and other technologies. The statement added, "Both sides unequivocally condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism. They expressed concern over the increasing use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), drones, and AI for terrorist purposes." They condemned the recent terror attacks in Pahalgam and near Delhi's Red Fort and stressed holding the perpetrators accountable. The talks also covered improving cooperation on training, cybersecurity, and sharing information to fight terrorism. Law enforcement and judicial cooperation were also discussed. The Indian delegation was led by Vinod Bahade, Joint Secretary (counter terrorism) in the Ministry of External Affairs. Monica Jacobsen from the US State Department led the American side.
