The Mysuru district administration held a tribute event on December 6 for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's 69th Mahaparinirvana Day. Floral offerings were made at Ambedkar's statue in Town Hall. The event was organized by Mysuru district administration, Zilla Panchayat, Department of Social Welfare, and Mysuru City Corporation.
Narasimharaja MLA Tanveer Sait said, "Ambedkar’s ideals and personality continue to inspire people as he espoused the cause of equality for all sections of society. This was enshrined in the Constitution." He added that the Karnataka government is making sure the Constitution’s principles are taught in schools and public programs. Mr. Sait also expressed hope that the long-delayed Ambedkar Bhavan in Mysuru would be completed soon.
Chamaraja MLA K. Harish Gowda stated, "140 crore Indians follow the ideals and values in the Constitution given by Ambedkar."
Buddhist monk Kalyan Shri Bhanteji from the Maha Bodhi Society praised Ambedkar's thoughts and principles. "Ambedkar’s thoughts promote both social and mental well-being and are relevant to society. When we adopt humane, non-sectarian, and non-casteist values in our lives, we become truly enlightened," he said. He compared Ambedkar’s path to Buddha's, noting their shared message that humanity should guide religion.
The monk added that Ambedkar shines as a beacon of equality worldwide despite his physical absence.
To mark the day, monks recited ‘Buddha Vandana,’ ‘Dharma Vandana,’ and ‘Sangha Vandana.’
Present at the event were Krishnaraja MLA T.S. Srivatsa, Mysuru Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, Mysuru Zilla Panchayat CEO S. Yukesh Kumar, Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner Sheikh Tanveer Asif, Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, Deputy Commissioner of Police Bindu Mani, and others.
