Owaisi Calls Babri Masjid Demolition a Blow to Constitution and Rule of Law
December 6, 2025
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi called the Babri Masjid demolition on December 6, 1992, a "weakening" of India’s Constitution and rule of law. Speaking at his party office in Darussalaam, Mr Owaisi reminded that leaders like L K Advani, Murali Manohar Joshi, and Uma Bharti had promised in writing, with police present, to leave the mosque untouched. Despite this promise, the mosque was destroyed in front of the police.
Mr Owaisi also recalled the events of December 22 and 23, 1949, when miscreants placed idols inside the mosque. He cited the Supreme Court, terming the demolition "egregious" and a violation of law. Thousands gathered at the site during the demolition day. However, criminal cases afterward ended with acquittals. The BJP government did not appeal these decisions.
Representing Hyderabad in Lok Sabha, Mr Owaisi shared that the Supreme Court noted no temple was demolished to build the mosque. He concluded, "On December 6, the Constitution was weakened and the rule of law was wounded."
