Drone Strike on Sudan Kindergarten Kills Over 50, Including 33 Children
December 7, 2025
A drone attack struck the town of Kalogi in Sudan's South Kordofan region on Thursday. The attack hit a kindergarten and killed at least 50 people, including 33 children. The Sudan Doctors' Network and the army blamed the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who are fighting the army in Sudan's civil war. The RSF has not commented on the kindergarten attack. They accused the army of launching a drone strike on Friday at a market and fuel depot near the Adre border crossing with Chad in Darfur. Sudan's war began in April 2023 after a power struggle between the RSF and the army, once allies. The army said missiles from drones hit the kindergarten twice and that civilians and medics rushing to help were also attacked. A UN official called the attack "a horrific violation of children's rights." Sheldon Yett from Unicef said, "Children should never pay the price of conflict" and urged all sides to stop attacks and allow safe aid access. The RSF denied attacking the kindergarten and claimed the army attacked the Adre crossing to disrupt aid and supplies. The Sudan War Monitor said the Darfur strike caused civilian casualties and market damage. The army has not yet commented on this. South Kordofan is a key battleground between Khartoum and Darfur. Fighting there has increased as the army advances toward Darfur. The region holds nearly eight million people.
